Uwiro is located outside the entrance to Arusha National Park. Uwiro is a long-standing village and works together as a community, with a strong council and community commitment. While all of these features make Momella the ideal setting for economic development, the village is currently experiencing an economic standstill, unable to take advantage of the growing eco-tourism opportunities in the local area. Uwiro village council have committed to becoming the first "Green Village". One of the "Green" policies is that participating communities match the work of project volunteers and partners with their own donation of resources. Therefore, villagers will gather available resources to provide their own materials for construction when possible. They will volunteer their time to help with construction and development of equipment for the interior space of the library. The library will not only provide additional resources to the community, it will also create a community hub for project work. 1. The building design will be created using green architectural strategies, taking advantage of sun and wind to light and cool the building space 2. The library will be the centre of environmental literacy work 3. A special library section will be created, devoted to resources for environmental literacy education.
